This Blog is Getting BORING!

Not much new to report here, but figured I ought to update since it's been a while.

Julie, our social worker, got her computer issues figured out and sent me a rough draft of our homestudy update Sunday evening. She needed a bit more info from me -- which I provided last night -- and we should get the final report in a week or so. That means we will be able to start the process with the Office of Homeland Security to get our fingerprint appointments, which was a HUGE delay in Carson's adoption.

Julie also informed me that the medical and financial reports I provided her -- the ones required by CCAI for the dossier packet -- were the wrong forms. Even though they wanted copies of them, I need to do the official State forms for her. Are you KIDDING me?? The financial report wasn't a big deal...I just transferred the numbers from the other one and sent it to her. However, the State medical forms require that I visit our family doctor again and ask his thoroughly incompetent staff to somehow get it right one more time. Ugghhhh. I dropped the forms off today and will be a nervous wreck until I get them back in the mail.

Believe it or not, I had forgotten how much FUN the paperchase is. Maybe that's God's way of protecting my brain so that I'm willing to go through this all over again...

Boy, I Wish This Were a Joke...

...but I got a voice mail message from Julie, our social worker, that her house got hit by lightning last Friday and her computer got zapped! She sounded quite distraught in the message and said she had some questions about our home study update. Oh, dear...we got the documents in under the wire and now this!! I'm sure it will be fine on our end, but I do feel bad for Julie...if I lost everything on my computer, I'm fairly certain I would LOSE MY MIND!!

Someday we'll look back on this story and laugh...

I Can't Believe We Actually Did It...

...but we BEAT THE DEADLINE! I was able to collect all of the required documents (even those requiring notarization) in time to get our homestudy updated before it expired! Yes!!!

The last step was picking up our completed physicals from our family doctor today. In case you forgot or didn't read my prior post about my dear doctor's incompetent staff, let's just say I was a bit afraid to go pick those up. I actually printed out new blank forms and took them with me in case they completely messed up and we had to do them over. There were a couple of small mistakes that I was able to fix myself, but other than that they were OK...and the office manager even notarized them correctly! Shocker!

The paperchase isn't completely finished yet, but the worst is definitely over! Once we receive our updated homestudy, we can send in the required documents to get our fingerprint appointment at the Office of Homeland Security. Once that is finished, the rest is truly smooth sailing.

Are You KIDDING Me?!?!!

Paperchasing was going way too smoothly. I should have known better. I shouldn't have bragged on this blog that we were gonna make it in under the wire to update our homestudy.

Today was my physical appointment. The last time we compiled a dossier, I distinctly remember that getting our physicals completed and notarized was one of the more frustrating tasks. Well, at least my doctor's office staff is consistent -- it's raring up to be another fiasco of mistakes!!

I just had a physical a few months ago (required for clinicals for my BSN program). My goal today was to drop off the physical form required for the dossier (which I was told they would fill in from the last physical since it was so recent), get a prescription for the few blood draws that are required, and be finished. But, noooooooooooo.

First of all, they charged me a co-pay...to DROP OFF PAPERWORK!!!! Thankfully, that got straightened out before I had to hurt anybody. (Just kidding...sorta.) Then I explained quite clearly to the medical assistant that I needed to have the three listed labs drawn. When I got the lab prescription, it had a list of eight or nine labs, including a fasting lipid level...and I had just eaten breakfast!! Asking them to just get the three required labs on a prescription sheet was sort of like asking them all (three lovely and incompetent ladies) to remove their hair, strand by strand, and weave me a wig. For goodness sake, people, just listen to ME and FOLLOW SIMPLE DIRECTIONS!!!!

I tried to very clearly (and s-l-o-w-l-y) explain the way this form has to be notarized...but I'm expecting that to be a fiasco. Two years ago when we did this, we had to have our physical forms redone THREE TIMES because they just couldn't follow directions. I adore my doctor, really I do, but I have to believe he has hired three of the dumbest office assistants God ever created.

If you are the praying type, please send one up that we get this straightened out before next Thursday!!
