A Day in the Life of a Birthday Boy...

(Warning for my readers with short attentions spans: this is a long post, but it is mostly pics.)

...is what a Birthday Boy looks like when he first wakes up on his 6th birthday. Here he is...
...when he discovers the decorations in the kitchen left by the "Birthday Angel"...
...and here is what the Birthday Boy's little sister looks like when she realizes those orange balloons are NOT for her! (I promise those decorations are orange and white, NOT pink and white. Carson claims orange as his favorite color...maybe he's a closet Tennessee fan...)

After a day of celebrating with his classmates in Kindergarten, we had a fun-filled evening planned for our Birthday Boy. It started out...
...by packing the kids (and the presents) into Daddy's truck to meet Mommy (who was coming directly from a LONG day of teaching) at Carson's favorite restaurant. Yes, folks, we were heading to McDonald's!
Carson thought it prudent to keep his hand on that big gift while he stole a quick cat nap...
...and he had a rough time waking up when we actually got to the restaurant!
Molly, however, was ready to party! (Forgive the odd angle of that picture...it was taken by Meggie and it looks sideways no matter how I position it!) After a delicious meal of Chicken McNuggets, apple slices, and milk......it was time to open those presents! The Birthday Boy was so excited when he opened the gifts Meggie bought him ("The Power Rangers Movie" and a cool Matchbox car)......and couldn't wait to dive into the big box from Mommy and Daddy! As he removed the paper...
...he was thoroughly confused as he couldn't figure out WHAT it was. (Don't you LOVE that face he's making at Daddy?!?!) However, that face turned to smiles...
...when he realized it was his very own aquarium! He has been DYING to get a pet fish. He and Daddy made a date to go "fish shopping" on Saturday morning. (That's where they are right now, actually.) As we outlined the rest of his evening (play in the Playland at McDonald's, then go home for another surprise, then watch his "Power Rangers" movie)...
...his reply of "Yessssssss!" told us he was enjoying his birthday!
Molly was SUCH a good sport, never once fussing that Carson got presents and she didn't. Daddy and I thought it was super sweet of Meggie to buy Carson gifts with her OWN money...
...and Carson agreed she deserved a big hug for that! (Come to think of it, Daddy and I never got hugs for our gift...) In the Playland, they all took turns in the musical area...
...then headed to the climbing tubes. I caught 'em all...
...as they exited the slide. (Meggie looks a bit "busted" in her picture, doesn't she? She was pretending that Molly was stuck up in the tubes so she could go up and rescue her. Teenagers!) After the Playland portion of our evening was over -- why does that place always smell so strongly of French fries and FEET? -- Daddy and Carson headed to Kroger to place his cake order for the official family birthday party on Sunday. The girls and I headed home...
...so Meggie could frost and decorate the cake she baked for Carson (the aforementioned "surprise"). Ever the budget-minded young woman...
...she chose a Superhero theme and decorated the cake with characters out of Carson's toys. (Yes, they were cleaned before being planted in the icing.) When Carson and Daddy arrived back home, Carson was SUPER excited Meggie baked him a cake. We were literally walking toward the table to light the big "6" candle...
...and the phone rang. It was Grandma and Grandpa B calling to wish him a Happy Birthday. He let Grandma sing to him and talked to Grandpa for a minute, then he said, "I wanna eat cake!" and handed the phone off to Daddy. Hysterical!
The candle was finally lit, the traditional song was sung...
...and the candle was blown out.
Whoa, Carson...don't eat the decorations!! (Actually, he was just getting all the chocolate frosting off of their feet.) Meggie tried to push Carson's face into the cake...
...and when she let go, he decided to just attack that cake without a fork or anything!
Just joking, that was a totally posed shot! The cake was awesome (thanks, Meggie!)...
...so why does Carson look so bummed?
Ahhhh...there's another present he is dying to open! This one is also from Meggie, but she is making him wait until the party on Sunday to open it. Does she know how to torture a 6-year-old or what?! As we headed outside to play in the backyard...
...I got a great picture of all the kids together. (Note that is now my Profile picture on the blog!)
But THIS picture is a better view of their real personalities. Yes, we are the proud parents of three utter goofballs!! After the sun went down...
...Daddy lit a fire in the fire pit and we all settled down at the backyard table...
...to have popsicles and watch a Curious George movie on the laptop. While many find this to be a weird pasttime -- Meggie, for example --
...Carson truly LOVES watching movies outside and both of the Littles were obviously enjoying the end of our evening. Besides, I think it's fun!

After "Curious George Goes to the Doctor" was over, we headed inside. I was SHOCKED to see how badly Molly had been attacked by the mosquitos! I bet she had 15 bites on her arms and legs!! Poor thing...we painted her with Benadryl cream and got her ready for bed. Carson and Daddy headed to the family room to watch the "The Power Rangers Movie" on the big screen TV and have a boys' night sleepover.

Wow...that was one busy day! I hope you had a Happy Birthday, my Little Man!!!
